One Kind Magazine: Breathtaking Mediterranean coastal retreat

We were again featured at One Kind Design Magazine where our Maison Amour House welcomed One Kind Design Team to show the unique style of this cozy villa with vintage pieces and natural stone flooring.

Built in the 70s, this Mediterranean coastal home was re-imagined for a Belgian family by interior designer Jessica Bataille, located in Jávea, a coastal town in Valencia, Spain. The structure and materials of the house are typical of the area and were preserved to keep its architectural essence. In the interior, wooden ceiling beams and arches were kept, while natural local materials were incorporated into the design, taken from the cliffs off the coast. In keeping with the Mediterranean style, clay floor tiles were selected as well as esparto grass cloth blinds on the porch. When decorating the interior of the home, walls were painted white to reflect the sun to help brighten the space. Even the Castilian style doors were painted white to achieve brightness throughout the interiors.

Light colored fabrics are selected for the furnishings to help illuminate the interiors, for both inside and out. The bedroom materials, such as bed linen and towels were also chosen to reflect natural light. Splashes of color were applied to add warmth in each room. Cushions in various shades of red and soft wool blankets in saffron helps to streamline the decor. Additionally, the warmth from wood accents and textures adds to the feeling of comfort. There are references to the sea throughout the interiors. Upcylced pieces such as the window in the dining room or the dresser next to the arch in the living room and turquoise painted to evoke the color of water.
