Mario’s ultimate love is nature (and ceramics)
Based in Madrid sculptor Mario Attard creates original pieces made of ceramics, then he glaze them with amazing colors that remind us of nature. Multi-technique artist, his career belongs to the visual arts, film and theatre, spans a few decades and has taken him all over the world.Born in Valletta (Malta), he received his Bachelor of Arts from the prestigious Gerry Rietveld Academy of Arts in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and received a further scholarship to the Rhode Island School of Design (USA) for specific work in glass and ceramics.
“Rock for mations fascinate me. I always wonder about their long evolution (...). And I feel the histor y of my life becomes so short and insignificant next to something that has been there and will still be there for millions of years.”
“I am endlessly fascinated with the diversity and plasticity found in clay. My work is inspired many times by nature, the materials and textures found in it, and the erosion process. Ceramics has always an element of surprise, every time you open the kiln to find a piece completely transformed from its previous stage”
El amor supremo de Mario es la naturaleza (y la cerámica). Basado en Madrid, el escultor Mario Attard crea piezas originales hechas de cerámica, que luego glasea con colores asombrosos que nos recuerdan a la naturaleza. Artista de múltiples técnicas, su carrera pertenece a las artes visuales, el cine y el teatro, abarca algunas décadas y lo ha llevado por todo el mundo. Nacido en La Valeta (Malta), recibió su Licenciatura en Artes de la prestigiosa Academia de Artes Gerry Rietveld en Ámsterdam (Países Bajos) y recibió una beca adicional para la Escuela de Diseño de Rhode Island (EE. UU.) para trabajos específicos en vidrio y cerámica.
"Las formaciones rocosas me fascinan. Siempre me pregunto sobre su larga evolución (...). Y siento que la historia de mi vida se vuelve tan corta e insignificante al lado de algo que ha estado ahí y todavía estará ahí durante millones de años."
"Estoy infinitamente fascinado con la diversidad y plasticidad que se encuentra en la arcilla. Mi trabajo está inspirado muchas veces por la naturaleza, los materiales y texturas que se encuentran en ella, y el proceso de erosión. La cerámica siempre tiene un elemento de sorpresa, cada vez que abres el horno para encontrar una pieza completamente transformada desde su etapa anterior."
